SOPHIE BIRO

Sophie Biro is the Founder & CEO of Adelwise, a sustainable finance consultancy and independent Blue Economy Research Provider, specializing in identifying investment solutions that support a sustainable ocean.

She brings a unique holistic, bridge-building approach to the complex and fragmented Blue Economy, actively engaging with a wide range of stakeholders — including international institutions, the financial sector, corporates (from startups to established players), philantropy and NGOs.

Sophie serves as a member of the Investment Committee of The MedFund, a conservation trust fund for Mediterranean MPAs. She also sits on the advisory committees of the UN Global Compact Ocean Investment Protocol, the French government’s coastal agency Conservatoire du Littoral, and several financial services organizations.

With over 25 years of experience in investment banking, Sophie has worked at Credit Suisse, Samsung Securities, BNP Paribas, Société Générale, and ING Barings as an equity and quantitative strategist in Asian and Emerging Markets. Based 13 years in London and 15 years in Hong Kong, she developed investment strategies through quantitative and thematic research, collaborating closely with research teams. Her expertise earned her top analyst rankings in Institutional Investor and Reuters Surveys, with strong recognition from institutional investors and hedge funds. She also contributed to two digital transformation projects at BNP Paribas.

Sophie holds an MSc in Computing Science from Imperial College London, is CFA-certified in ESG Investing, and has completed the University of Cambridge’s Sustainable Finance course.

Beyond finance, Sophie is deeply committed to sustainability. She is the Founder & President of the environmental NGO SeaGeneration, dedicated to marine conservation and restoration, with a strong focus on youth education and Asia. Her hands-on field experience strengthens her ability to bridge the worlds of philanthropy, finance, academia, and corporate leadership.
